What people usually ask before installing: privacy, platforms, OCR engines, translation, and output formats.

Frequently asked questions.

Current release: v0.1.123. If a question is missing, the app repository documents how to reach out.

Does pixtotext upload my images?

No. OCR runs locally by default. Images are only sent to a cloud provider if you enable and configure cloud OCR.

What platforms does it target?

pixtotext is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Mobile builds are planned later.

Can it process more than one image?

Yes. The batch extractor is built for multiple files and can merge output when that helps the task.

Where does cloud OCR fit?

Cloud OCR is optional. It is meant for higher-accuracy cases where you intentionally choose a provider and accept sending data to that provider.

Which OCR engines does pixtotext use?

pixtotext ships with native system OCR, PaddleOCR, and the lightweight ocrs engine, and can use Tesseract when it is installed. All of these run locally.

Can pixtotext translate extracted text?

Yes. Translation runs offline with Argos Translate once you install a language pack for the language pair you need.

What formats can I convert OCR output to?

You can convert extracted text to HTML, Word (DOCX), PDF, or Markdown inside the app.

Is pixtotext free?

The desktop app is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux as a name-your-own-price download, including a free option.
